Information About Consorzio del Vulture
In the northern area of Basilicata region, around the Vulture mountain, an ancient inactive volcano, is practiced since many centuries the culture of Aglianico grape, introduced in this areas by the ancient Greeks. Aglianico del Vulture, a masterpiece of southern Italy enology, has many supporters, including the poet Oratius, Pliny the Elder and Carlo d'Angiņ that in one of his letters "ordered" 400 barrels of good wine produced in the hills of Vulture. Among an enchanting view, with castles and ancient villas still witnessing the passage of Emperor Frederic II, whose memory is still alive in hawk hunting activities, is found the town of Barile that, with its famous cellars dug in tufa rock, is considered the symbol and the centre of the area that since ever keeps alive its enogastronomical traditions. It is at Barile, city of wine, which is located the Consorzio Viticultori Associati del Vulture. The consortium has grouped some cooperatives and the most ancient wineries which made with history of the enology in this region, all located at the feet of the Vulture mountain, in the jilly areas of volcanic origin. The consortium is equipped with modern wine making machineries which allow the production of 20,000 hectoliters of wine, of which 5000 being aged in oak casks. The consortium's wine maker personally takes care of every phase of production: from cultivation in vineyards to the processing of grapes, from aging to bottling. The natural biologic richness of lands, as well as the traditional capacity of making wine, allow the Consorzio dei Viticoltori del Vulture to be awarded of the most important prizes.
