South Tyrol Valle Isarco Kerner DOC
Position: 810 m s.l.m .; sheltered slope facing south, located under the village of Fiè allo Sciliar; sandy gravelly soil with good water permeability; strong temperature variations between day and night during the maturation phase; also 900 m s.l.m .; slope facing south, in Tiso in the Val di Funes; the Kerner grows on volcanic rock and tuff (Andesite) and on a sandy gravelly soil with good water permeability; here were also the famous Tiso geodes.
Training system: Guyot 7,300 vines / ha
Yield: 55 hl / ha
Vinification: The ideal degree of ripeness is reached at the beginning of October. Then the grapes are harvested by hand. Afterwards, the grapes are separated from the stalks and macerated for 8 hours in the wine press. The delicate pressing and natural clarification of grape must give the Kerner complex aromas. Subsequently, the fermentation takes place in the steel tank at a constant temperature of 18 ° C. The maturation of 6 months takes place on the fine lees before bottling in May.
Description of the wine: In the glass the Kerner is presented in a light straw yellow with green reflections. The fragrant notes recall peaches, elder flowers and citrus. Its taste convinces thanks to its complex structure, lively acidity and salty minerality.
