Explosive aromas of sweet, ripe red cherry, chocolate-covered plum, violet and cappuccino. Enters rich and suave, then turns somewhat more austere, offering lovely purity to its red fruit and sweet baking spice flavors. Displays lovely balance for a sagrantino with the Antonelli-signature silky tannins and great length. Very well done.
Grape vareety: Sagrantino 100%, from our best selection massale grafts on rootstock 420A.
Vinification: by gravity after selection of grapes. Fermentation in contact with the skins for 20 days at a maximum temperature of 28°C.; malolactic fermentation in wood.
Agein: in lightly toasted 500 L barrels for 6 months then in 25 hL oak barriques for 15 months followed by assembling and clarifying in cement vats for 3 months; final ageing in the bottle for 2 years.
The wine isn’t stabilised nor filtered.
Tasting notes: intense ruby red in colour. A rich and powerful, ethereal and very complex nose. Typically characterised by notes of fruit and aromatic herbs, where citrus features, cherry, berry, mint and oregano. On the palate this wine is very structured, with firm and persistent tannins. A wine that is best expressed with a long bottle ageing.
